Cretan Gunners
Cretan Gunners was created through the need to offer but also the lack of free organized sport for all. The Gunners though we are more than just a rugby team, we are a community open to all people who want to participate in it, LGBTQ+ Friendly, and with a women's group, we practically declare our support for everything. Beyond sports, a large part of being a Gunner is inseparably linked to volunteering and giving back to the community. Some of them our actions are cleaning beaches, seabeds, paths, rivers, and springs, and the huge cleaning operation of the Old Port of Chania, which was organized entirely by our club, raising a total of 30 tons of waste. We have also organized dozens of volunteer events actions in collaboration with ELEPAP, SYNANTHROPO, HORIZONTA, and ARCHELON.

The lives of the Cretan Gunners, within a few years, evolved into a festival and they became an integral part of the Gunners' culture.

It all started in 2017, two years after the founding of the group after we had found our own space and on the occasion of a Nightstalker live that was taking place in the city of Chania. Encouraged by the live and full of energy, we decided to do the opening of the club with lambs, punk-rock music, and a lot of madness. So our first live took place in September '18: NightStalker - Puta Volcano - Scandal. As always, with free entry and all proceeds from the bar being donated for a philanthropic purpose but also for the maintenance of the group that provides free-of-charge sport for all.

After the incredible energy we received in that live and the joy that we got when we were able to give away money we raised by doing something we love so much, we were determined to continue.

In 2019 the 2nd Cretan Gunners Festival took place with headliners Vodka Juniors, Puta Volcano, THRAX PANC, and OTOBRITSI MOTORI in Vatolakko where now the festival of the Cretan Gunners established itself and took off with over 3,000 people to attend it!

Y.O.D. wants to stay true to the goal and purpose of its creation in our community, i.e. the practical support of artists, we have the space/stages for free and we provide accommodation to any artist who wants to express/create at YOD Village.

OPTIONS

1. Free Space Allowance
Any scope of production - band, show, exhibition, etc. may be accommodated in our facilities free of charge after drawing up a concession contract space with conditions. There is no charge for the use of the space to those interested, with the bars and the food to be in the possession of Y.O.D. for commercial exploitation. It will be offered accommodation in the hostel only for artistic members and a traditional yod-drink for everyone.

We also offer two transfers with the Y.O.D van to and from the port or airport or bus station.
For each additional issue - request there will be a corresponding charge, for example:

  • Working personnel to cut tickets at the entrance: €40 (daily fee/person)
  • Working personnel for the merchandise: €40 (daily charge/person)
  • Valet parking: €40 (daily fee/person)
  • Reception and welcome person: €30 (daily fee/person)

Anything that is extra and requires the participation of Y.O.D. is billed separately and upon explanation of needs, pricing is done.

2. 80% (artist) 20% (YOD)**
In this agreement, we provide the same as in the first option, i.e. free space for artists and the accommodation of the artistic members with the bars and food to be in possession of Y.O.D. for commercial exploitation.

  • Traditional yod-drink after the event

The final income is derived from 80% of the income after taxes.
** Upon consultation, the percentage can be converted, e.g. 90-10

3. 50-50 (after submitting a project proposal):
Youth Of Dope is co-producing, both procedurally and financially, with a guarantee of keeping it to the high standards under which it operates as a practice supporting the art workers' movement. We want to support new ideas, artists, or an artistic vision and to become the means for creation. That's why artists can us send a complete proposal of their project and we in turn will contact the artists to see if we can support each project.


Furthermore
There is no charge for the use of the space to those interested, with the bars and food owned by Y.O.D for commercial use. Accommodation will be offered at hostel only for artistic members and a traditional yod-drink for all. Co-production revenue is shared 50% after taxes

4. External production - Entire village
YOD is an ideal place for large productions as it has a hostel with 2 rooms of 19 beds and 6, toilets/showers, a gaming room, coworking space, 6 stages, a bar, a kitchen, and a mini market.

If someone wishes to rent the YOD place, there should be a clarification of the actions that will take place but also of the value framework in which the project moves. For example, we don't want huge midnight parties on our premises.

Y.O.D. will not have any income from the event (e.g. bar) beyond the pre-agreed amount for the tenancy.

Y.O.D Productions
Having years in the field with deep experience in lives we have decided to reach out to each of our productions with a lot of passion, creativity and we always want the best result. For these reasons, Y.O.D makes limited own productions - experiences always having 3 recipients: the public, the participants, and the members who work to build each production. Our goal is to make productions that will remain indelibly etched in the memory of all of us and not uninspired fast-food productions.

2023 FESTIVAL ACTIVITY

14 - 16/07 CRETAN GUNNERS 4th FESTIVAL

6 years of concerts, 3 free Cretan Gunners Festivals over 15,000 people partied, danced, and sang along with us. Coming from a crazy summer with lots of love and support in YOD and Cretan Gunners Fest, in 2023 we continue actively supported the art workers movement with free entry for everyone and a line-up that you won't be able to lose


The Hostel
Our "Yod", "Youth Of Dope Village", is a hub for travelers, artists, and roaming creatures. Having restored a 19th Century Cretan Mansion, we created a space that combines Hostel, Concert Space, Offices, Cafe-Bar, Gaming room, and other activities.

In 2022 which was also our first year of operation in the space of only 3 months hosted over 1,000 guests.

Not just a hostel
Our YOD venue has 5 different outdoor stages with the smallest having capacity of 80 - 100 people and the largest reaching 5,000. At the same time, it also has an interior stage for workshops, exhibitions, book presentations, etc. Our multitude of stage options allows us to be hosted at YOD from small gigs to workshops, theatrical performances but also big concerts and the list goes on.

What is Y.O.D.?
We founded Youth Of Dope in 2020 as a functional Support Art Workers movement with the aim of bridging the commercial availability of the Artists' works, always aligned with their value priorities. Our idea is about a brand that will unite artists under one umbrella and contribute to the promotion of artistic actions and activities.

Our story begins in 2015 with the establishment of Cretan Gunners, the first of Rugby team in Crete that was born based on the values of diversity, equity & inclusion. Through our cultural action as CG, we envision a more organized form of it, gradually embodied as Youth Of Dope.

Our action at Y.O.D. is multi-dimensional. We have a video production department and merch from 2020, as well as YOD's physical headquarters, ChorYod (YOD Village) at Kalorrouma of Chania, having incorporated Event Spaces and a Hostel.

How it all started?
The combination of two valuable experiences of the founding members of our community brought the inclusion of a Hostel in the Project of Y.O.D. with the aim of their reproduction and revival.

  • On the one hand, the monthly trips to other continents and the philosophy that the stay exudes in hostels, created a thirst for adventure. Backpacking without a plan, meeting with travelers, community interaction, carelessness, and living in the moment. All these elements in a cultural mix with Cretan hospitality, would give the pulse we wanted for our community.
  • On the other hand, having hosted dozens of artists in our homes at times organizing concerts & festivals as Cretan Gunners, we gained unforgettable experiences and community character that created strong bonds of friendship and beautiful memories that follow us to this day. Continuing the event organization at YOD, we wanted to maintain this type of association with the artists.

YOD Hostel comes and makes these conditions in a more organized way environment, thus completing the experience we hoped to create in ChorYod, always remains a space for exchanging energy and ideas!
